10-minute Clutter Control Room By Room
(Skye Alexander)

Beat the clock

Donna Smallin suggests a variation on this clutter-clearing "game" in her book Organizing Plain and Simple. She recommends giving each child a basket, pillowcase, bag, or box. Then, set a timer for a period of time-say, ten minutes-and challenge kids to compete to see who can pick up the most useless or unwanted stuff before the bell rings. The winner gets a prize. No, not more "stuff", but maybe a movie or pizza.
