History's Greatest Fraud
(Scott Stockdale)
This is a very personal story about one man?s struggle to expose the truth about the greatest fraud in history. Through his struggle, Ron Stockdale, a former Brantford, Ontario policeman evolves through the three stages which Dostoevsky considered to be the progression of man: the brute, the calculator and the philanthropist. These three stages are represented by the three brothers in Dostoevsky?s novel ?The Brothers Karamozov.? After obtaining possession of some pre-World War II German bonds, Mr. Stockdale discovers that German corporations, municipalities and government agencies sold billions of dollars worth of these bonds to retail investors around the world and then used an elaborate ruse to cheat bond purchasers out of their money when the bonds became due. In yet another elaborate ruse, Mr. Stockdale was charged and convicted of conspiracy to commit fraud as a result of his attempts to have these bonds validated. Before being exonerated on appeal of all wrongdoing due to lack of evidence, Mr. Stockdale suffers indignities and brutality at the hands of prison inmates and staff. As a result of his ordeal he loses everything except his faith in Jesus Christ. Emerging from such an ordeal only to find he has a life-threatening illness, he responds by becoming a born-again Christian and a representative of the Full Gospel Businessmen?s organization dedicated to spreading the word of God to as many people as possible.
