Neverending Story

This novel is about a young boy named Bastian who is the age between elven and twelve. It all starts when he opens a book named the NeverEnding story. The land in which the book takes place is called Fantastica. In Fantastica a boy warrior named Atreyu must save the world from the evil Nothing. The Nothing is a force that is causing parts of Fantastica to disappear. But worst still, Fantastic's ruler the Childlike Empress is becoming deathly ill. It is up to Atreyu to find the cause of the Nothing and save the Childlike Empress's life!
On his quest, Atreyu is acompainied by Falkor the loveable luck dragon. After many arduous battles, Atreyu finally reaches the Ivory Tower where the Childlike Empress resides. Atreyu is dismayed when he figures out that the only way to save his ruler, is for Bastian to name her. When Bastian arrives in Fantastica, he names the Childlike Empress MoonChild. As a reward for his act of heroism Bastian is given custody of AURIN, an amulet which gives the power to grant him wishes. As a consiquence of Bastian's narrow-minded wishes, he loses apart of himself each time he uses AURIN. At the climax of the story Bastian becomes fully himself only when he learns to love others as well as himself.
