Au Fond, Ce N'est Pas Si Mal

It is the month of May, a period where the country's wildflowers capture the sun's warm rays and the sweet spring scents permeate my nostrils. The crack of dawn's pale light slowly grazes the foot of my bed. With each passing minute, the sun manages to escape the grips of the cloud's blanket, making the light grow more intense and brighter and reaching my face. I get up leaving my sister sound asleep and head towards the bathroom. In the shower, the fresh water touches my skin giving me a sensation of well being. Once out of the shower, I put on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt carefully chosen the night before. All alone in the kitchen and comfortably settled, I begin to prepare my breakfast accompanied only by the monotonous music of the clock which is signaling 7 o'clock . I will be late for school so I dash for the front door. A light spring breeze accompanied by a light scented perfume of Lilies, genlty caresses my face. Clouds are parading in the sky well lit by the sun's strong rays. I run as fast as I can not to miss my bus. The bus is already there and all the students are seated, half awake. I climb on the bus and spot a vacant seat. I begin contemplating life, when all kinds of questions fill my mind. Who am I? Where am I going? What is my true destiny? Sitting on my seat, my eyes scouring the countryside : the mountains are engulfed by a purple haze, the wind seems to cause the plants to shiver, the latter murmurs the coming of Spring. While the bus comes to a halt, I am lost in my thoughts, and have forgotten all notions of time. The students scurry towards the exit of the bus like Zombies straight out of their tombs. I patiently wait till everyone is off before I too get off. This time unlike many other times, I was not going to take the road that leads to the school. I would disappear in some backlane where I would become oblivious to the world and where the sun could not possibly exhibit it's grandeur. Tredging on in the back lane, my anxiety arises. I come upon a forest unbeknownst to man. A forest where no man has ever set foot. I forge on into the bowels of this forest where old trees completely absorb the sun's rays and make it virtually impossible for me to venture on. Meandering the trails, I notice the wind seems to have forgotten to murmur to the trees, the arrival of Spring. The leaves wrinkled, crackle under my feet. Suddenly, I notice a shadow scurrying among the old Oak trees. My heart races erratically. I am afraid, I have cold sweats. All of a sudden the shadow reveals it's true identity to me, I run towards it to embrace it with tenderness. It's odor intoxicates me, it's gaze upon me excites me. Younnis pushes me gently back and devours me with his hungry eyes. I can feel tears rolling gently down my cheeks. He stretches out his hand to retrieve a tear. A light smile is drawn from his lips. I lift myself up slowly on the tip of my toes to carefully kiss him. He then proceeds to press his lips close to my ears and whispers "I love you" at which point his muflled words gently tickle my ear, his appeasing voice makes me forget all my worries. A feeling of happiness exacerbates me running along the back of my spine. He hugs me again. I can see clouds moving in the pale sky and disappearing behind the mountains. I observe them, gaze at them peacefully, stretched out on my back with my hands clasped behind my nape. I turn on my side to admire Younnis. In spite of the somber colour of his skin, I notice the sweat beads on his back. I get up, get dressed and gaze at the scenery around me, and a sense of well-being invades me. The trees have never been so beautiful and the breeze which caresses my face ever so soft. Two wondering hands grab my hips. Younnis inhales the fragrant scent of perfune in my black hair which permeates his nostrils. He covers me with kisses and presses my cheek against his and then proceeds to get dressed. He returns with a pistol and gently hands me the pistol caressing mking hand. He signals me to cock the pistol and shoot.. I am in cold sweats , I am scared . My heart carries a heavy weight of suffering and my trembling hands carry a weapon which will destroy me. Without saying a word, I bring the barrel up and hold it against Younnis? temple. The gunshot reverberates and sends birds flying in all directions. There is blood oozing from his temple. Eyes wide open, Younnis drops to the ground. Tears and blood dripping down my cheeks. I then turn the pistol to my temple and press the trigger whereby my destiny has been accomplished. The next morning, two bodies are found: Aiko Honda, 16 years old, and Younnis Hachemi, 17 years old. The two teenagers have comitted suicide because of a love that could not be. Their parents had built an ethnic barrier..
