"It wanted to find an expression for the dualidad (...)
Because single of this the life consists, in fluctuating
between two poles, in the oscillation between both pillars
that maintains the world". It wanted to show with joy the
infinite variety of the world and to remember that at heart
of this truth there is a unit ". This wrote the author of
the Nobel prize in 1923, in its Bath Psychologia.
Nevertheless, it already had expressed the same thought,
when he composed a small great literary jewel: The
metamorphosis of Pictor. One is a brief story, of fifteen
pages, illustrated with drawings made by the hand of the
same Hesse, and refined painted, suggestive images, that
valorize their level still more. In this work, the author
reveals the bipolarity to us of the unit, through the style
and of the grace that characterize it. He sends us dance
to a pendular of the matter, to a game of opposed inmanente
in each element, object or person, for who a corresponding
one exists, that other half that somehow talks about a twin
soul. So that if this double unit is not completed, it is
impossible to reach a happiness degree. Its deficiency
would take us search unfruitful to a circular and. The
footpath is long, total of observations, errors and
obstacles. The fluctuations determine a passage in which
the patience and the hope will constitute the generating
and renovador moving body of energies to arrive at
destiny. The result of this one search, in the best one of
the cases, will consequently produce the meeting with other
half and the fusion with the same one. A sort of dialectic
fusion that from the beginnings settled down between the
man and the nature, soon between the inanimate animals and
beings to conclude in the fusion man woman: Origin of the
life. All it in a same level, a bird can be transformed
into stone, a flower in a bird multicolor and everything
can happen, until the stone can operate like a talisman
with magical powers to turn desires in fact. Pictor dreams
about transforming itself into tree and immediately the
roots occupy the place of their inferior members. Although
a tree appears strong, imposing; single and it is left,
without possibility of moving, always fixed in the same
place by centuries; without no hope to explore the world.
Hardly it becomes aware from his metamorphosis, realizes
that its dream was an error. The estatismo does not lead
to the happiness, rather to the solitude and the death. At
the moment at which Pictor as opposed to sees a girl
himself, it feels a fort desire to embrace it, to be united
to her, but it cannot. However, the young person seems to
read his message between the branches, like a whisper from
the foliage. He rubs the magical stone and nondoubt in
being united to him. Finally united, Pictor and the young
person are part of the same trunk, fused in a love
symbiosis. Poetry and legend occur the hand to leave
impronta us of a creator who marked a landmark in universal
Literature, demonstrating once again that the opposed ones
are necessary: light and shade, moon and sun, as in a pair
or as in the "twin stars that shine in the firmament". A
simple and conmovente history, always effective, that to us
a love legacy proposes, a caress to the humanity; perhaps,
to rescue to us of the boredom, the mediocrity and the
indifference of the historical moment that is called on to
