The Programme


This event is a practical workshop based day to focus on the issue of securing funding for rural youth work and work with young people in rural areas. You will have opportunities to learn about a range of funding programmes and possibilities, applicable to voluntary, community and statutory sectors. Detailed descriptions of the workshops are provided overleaf to enable you to select the most appropriate choices for you and your work. You will also have the unique opportunity provided by our events to network with other professionals and practitioners from the youth work and rural development sectors, researchers, trainers and policy makers.

The Venue
The Arthur Rank Centre is set in the accessible rural location of Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire, situated close to the M6, M40 and M69. The venue has ample free onsite parking and is accessible by taxi from Coventry and Warwick Parkways train stations. There is accommodation available on site or nearby should you require it.

Workshop 1

Workshop 2
Children in Need will give an overview of their funding possibilities for work with young people in rural areas.




Workshop 3
Introduction to private sector fundraising.
John Heritage, Development Director of Making Space, the mental health charity, will introduce you to the world of private sector fundraising, including individual giving, corporate sponsorship, finding the right partners and how to recognise and reward your donors.

Workshop 4
How to win funds from the statutory sector. Derek Smith from actionplanning.co.uk will look at the changing patterns of statutory funding and future trends. The ?Golden Rules? of statutory fundraising will be introduced which provide practical advice to improve bids.

Workshop 5
The Big Lottery will give an overview of all their programmes.


Workshop 6
The Prince?s Trust/Big Boost has up to ¢5000 available for groups of young people in rural areas. Young people supported by the Prince?s Trust will speak about how they set up a youth café in Rhyl, Wales, and how they found the money to keep it going.

Workshop 7
An introduction to fundraising from charitable trusts and foundations. Steve Larcombe of the Directory of Social Change will show you how fundraising does not have to be an uphill struggle! Learn about the do?s and don?ts of fundraising, how trusts operate, what they want to know and what you need to know to make a successful application.

Workshop 8
The National Trust and Young Roots will demonstrate how they have worked inpartnership to provide access to NT properties and resources and funding for heritage projects of up to £25,000.

Workshop 9
Youth Bank will show you how the young people you work with could access start up funds of up to £5k to launch their very own rural youth bank.

Workshop 10
Commissioning. Colleagues from the statutory and voluntary sectors will share their experiences and expertise of commissioning services in rural areas.
