Psychic Discoveries Behind The Iron Courtain
(Sheila; Ostrander & Lynn; Schroeder)
Can you imagine what could have happened if, at a peak of the Cold War, a Soviet spy had been able to deceive the whole American "intelligence" by making everybody believe that he is, say... the president of the US? The Soviets had such a man. His name was Wolf Messing, a Polish Jew, who became known as "the psychic Stalin tested". The Soviet leader, an obvious sceptic when it came to anything that couldn't be proved scientifically, grew so fascinated by the man, who previously had been tested by the likes of Albert Einstein, Sigmunt Freud or Mahatma Ghandi, that he decided to test Messing himself. Without permission, without a pass, the famous psychic was to enter Stalin's dacha (cottage) in Kuntsevo. Obviously, security was as thick as the shrubbery surrounded the country house, platoon of body guards, secret police etc. A few days later, when Stalin sat at the table reading some documents, a slightly built man entered his room. The bodyguards stood back respectfully... Stalin was in shock, Wolf Messing stood in front of him! How did he do it? He "simply" suggested to the guards that he was Lavrenti Beria, who was a constant visitor in Stalin's dacha... And, even if he didn't look anything like the infamous head of Soviet secret police, he was able to "convince" dozens of people that he was Beria! His ability of "clouding people's minds" Messing discovered when he was just eleven. Once, he travelled by train but didn't have a ticket, so he crept under a seat. When a conductor noticed him, and asked for ticket, frightened boy handed him a piece of paper torn from a newspaper. At the same time he tried to "will" the conductor into believing that it was a ticket. The conductor punched the worthless scrap of paper and asked why was the boy hiding under the seat... His amazing "power of mental suggestion" was only one of many abilities of this man, on whose "head" Adolf Hitler put a 200 000 marks reword. And that was because of Messing's prophecy (1937) that the Fuehrer will die if he "turns to East". His later prediction was even more impressing. In 1943, when the end of the war was not yet in sight, publicly, in the packed Opera Theatre in Novosibirsk, he "anounced" that the war would end in May 1945, when "Soviet tanks roll into Berlin". Messing had also achieved great success as a clairvoyant, telephatist, and mind reader. Aside from stage performances of telephaty, he was often called in as a psychic sleuth. His most famous "trick" in this field was finding long lost family jewels (police and detectives had searched for them for months) of Count Czartoryski. 800 000 zloty worth treasure was hidden... in the count's house! In a stuffed toy that belonged to one of the servant's son they found some Christmas tree ornaments, colored bottles and... 800,000 zloty worth family jewels. Apparently, the little boy, attracted by anything that glittered, had taken all "shinning objects", and slipped them inside the stuffing of his bear! Talking only about Wolf Messing, and his extraordinary achievements, might be enough material for two "abstracts". Even if the subject of Cold War doesn't seem to be so fascinating any more, this book, full of biographical informations and "amazing stories" (all of them documented and authenticated) is still a great read.
