Fear and other Crisis of Belief

Questions of the day:

What do you do when you get that wave of panic?
You are stepping out in faith and acting in accordance with divine leading and then BOOM, you are hit with fear and/or other crises of belief???

In his seminal work, Experiencing God, Henry Blackaby writes that there are seven "realities" of experiencing a relationship with God. The paradigm centers on the fact that God is pursuing a love relationship with us that is real and personal; that God is at work around us and God will invite us to join (become involved in) the work that God is doing. The fifth reality states that "God's invitation for you to work with Him always leads you to a crisis of belief that requires faith and action."

Before you respond to God's invitation to become involved in His work, you will be confronted with a crisis of belief and fear. You must have faith and take action. Yet, all along the way you will also be confronted with crises of belief. In my experience it is not a one time thing. Blackaby states that it is a daily experience. How you live your life is a testimony of what you believe about God. Do you believe that your God is a big God?

"How you respond at this turning point [the crisis] will determine whether you go on to be involved with God in something God-sized that only He can do, or whether you will continue to go your own way and miss what God has purposed for your life."

That is convicting and inspiring at the same time. Indeed. If your vision and your dream are God-inspired and big, you can expect to be stretched and to be in a place where only God can help you to do what He is calling you to do.

So what do you do when you are in the middle of walking out in faith and you are overwhelmed with fear? uncertainty? You just want to quit? You doubt whether you are doing the right thing. What do you do when these attacks come against your mind?

You pray. Diligently. Fervently, without ceasing. Joyce Meyer in her work, Battlefield of the Mind, talks about a revelation she received from God regarding the need to pray against "mind binding spirits." I believe this to be true. The weapons of our warfare are not flesh and blood but spirits and principalities of the dark ages. The enemy will attack your mind. You must put on the full armor of God and gird yourself up against the attacks because they will come. At times they may come in direct proportion to the faith and action that you are taking in your life. When you act out in faith and pursue the work God is calling you to pursue, you become a threat to the enemy.

The other day, I was attacked. I was shellshocked, I felt paralyzed. I had been acting in faith, believing God for his faithfulness to help me fulfill the vision he had given me for mediation and I felt knocked out. I was having another crisis of belief. I was pursuing the work God had invited me to join him in. I was acting out in faith. I was believing God to make it work. I had seen amazing results in a very short period of time. Part of my crisis came down to a question of finances. Investing money into the project. How much money and time should I devote? Was this a 100% commitment or not? Not knowing if we would be able to pay our bills. Putting my money where my mouth was so to speak.

God calls us to action. Faith without works is dead. We are instructed not to be beholden to mammon. So, it would make sense that I would need to put financial resources behind the plan and behind the vision.

Be encouraged. Believe God for the impossible. For with God, nothing is impossible. It is only when we believe God for the big dreams he has placed inside us that we are going to fulfill our destiny. It is not easy.

Pray. Ask others to pray for you. Be in constant prayer with the father as to your direction and your path.

Action you can take when you are confronted with a crisis of belief:

1. Pray and ask others to pray for you. Pray agnst mind binding spirits. Pray for God's continued guidance, wisdom and strength.

2. Remember where God has brought you from. Think back to prior experiences with faith and action. Remember how God has delivered you, blessed you, walked with you in prior experiences.

3. Meditate on the scriptures relating to God's promises to you. e.g. He who began a good work in you is faithful to complete it until the day of Christ Jesus. God will not leave you stranded. He has a plan for your life and this life.

4. Meditate on the scriptures relating to our powerful God -- Nothing is impossible for God. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. The God who created the universe and all that is in it. His strength and majesty are too wonderful for words.

Never Give UP. Press on toward your prize. Live your destiny today.
