What is The Understanding Peace Project? Let's start with the word, Peace. It's a word that we all have been hearing for as long as we can remember. But what does it mean? How do we achieve the experience of peace? Now that we daily live under the dark cloud of terrorism, war and uncertainty, how do we create the experience of peace? Do we wait for our leaders to legislate peace, or do we take it on as a personal quest? These are questions that every thinking person asks. Obviously, there are many paths towards peace. The Understanding Peace Lecture Series will shed light as to how we can all move towards our heart's desire, to have a peaceful personal life, to live in a peaceful community, and to create a peaceful world. We are each responsible for our own lives. It is a choice as to how one responds to the external world. One can choose to live in an abundant, loving, peaceful world. When anyone encounters a person who responds to the world as if it were a lacking, hateful, angry world, it is up to the responding individual to react in a positive light, to create another possibility. Anyone can make the conscious choice to be a stand for peace in the world and it starts with the individual, with the creation of inner peace. When there is peace in the heart, there will be peace in the world. The challenge to live in a peaceful world is for each individual to create a balance of spirit mind and body or a lasting sense of inner peace on a daily basis. How can we as a people on this planet achieve this inner peace or balance so that we are not constantly creating an environment where we are confronted by discontent, the threat of war and everyday violence? The purpose of the Understanding Peace Project is to look at peace as a way of being. Peace in the heart, creating peace in the community, creating peace among nations, and peace in the world is the ultimate goal. How does one go about achieving inner peace in the heart and personal balance in a fast paced culture of demands and expectations? There may be as many answers as there are people who are asking the question. The presentations that comprise the Understanding Peace Project offer the community different approaches or ways of achieving inner peace. Those who attend the presentations by the Peace Speakers will have the opportunity to seriously look at different methods and practices that are working for people of many cultures and belief systems. Ask the questions- Is this a match for me?- Will I be able to achieve inner peace with this approach? The hope is that the answer will be "yes" and that morepeople will choose to adopt a personal inner peace practice that will match their lifestyles and personal spiritual beliefs. The Understanding Peace Project Lecture Series is comprised of five presentations by a very diverse group of talented and devoted individuals. Each presents an hour presentation that shares a personal approach to inner peace.
