Animal Farm

"Animal Farm" is an allegory of revolution, communism and the process of founding totalitarism. A farm ruled at first by human owners, Mr and Ms Jones, is taken over by animals. The rebel is triggered by a dream of a pig- Major, about an utopian farm ruled by free and equal animals. The leader dies but the revolution takes place and the animals begin to rule the farm. Two pigs, Napoleon and Snowball, as the most intelligent, take control. The work on the farm doesn't differ too much from what was before, only that now the animals are aware of the fact, taht they work for themselves and so are prepared for much a greater effort. The best example of it is a horse, Boxer, who worked himself almost to death while building a windmill. Also a constitution is being written according to which all animals are equal an humans are enemies.
Unfortunately the utopia doesn't last too long. The pigs begin to quarrel, Snowball is banished, and the new-born puppies are raised up to form a kind of police commando. The food begins to lack. Napoleon and other pigs, in spite of the rules settled before, begin to take over human behaviours (they wear clothes, drink alcohol and sleep in beds) and deal with the other farmers. The constitution itself also changes in an inexplicable way. For example the rule "All animals are equal" is being extended by a phrase "... but some animals are more equal than others". One by one the principles of the revolution are abandoned and the situation begins to be even worse than before. The last scene, observed by the rest of the animals through the glass of the window, shows pigs and people sitting at one table. Although the light is good, it is no more possible to distinguish one from the other.
The animal heroes symbolise well known celebrieties involved in the revolution in Russia. Major is the idealist-till-the-end Lenin, Snowball is Trocky, who was never allowed real access to power, and Napoleon is of course Stalin.
