Beauty for Ashes
JOYCE MEYER MINISTRIES

The author is well known in the West for her talks and her. But for a non-Christian in other parts of the world she is an unknown factor. It was a chance discussion with a friend on child abuse that led me to read this book.
A lot of courage or ?guts? as her father says finally, is needed to acknowledge to oneself the fact that one has been abused and to reveal to the world the same as well. The inner demons have to be vanquished before one can let go of the past and become whole again. By sharing her miserable childhood with the readers Meyer has revealed herself as a committed Christian in search of lost flock to shepherd to that final goal.
To look at it just as Christian literature would be doing it injustice although the book is peppered with a lot of quotations from the Bible. For a laic as well the message of love and forgiveness is as relevant as to a born-again Christian. Meyer urges people to build bridges and not walls; to rejoice in other people?s good fortune and not feel envious and above all forgive so that one can move on to better things in life.
Meyer discusses parent-child, husband-wife relationships and concludes that one has to accept them as they are and look to God for that perfectly satisfying relationship. Once all the past grudges have been thrown away like ashes, then one is left with beauty of happiness and contentment.
