Mr. Robin Sharma, in this truly inspiring novel, has seen to it that he has covered all aspects of life, and has taught us well to fill this glass of life with the elixir of sensibility and purpose.
In the book, he likens our mind, to an extraordinary garden, in fact calling it the most extraordinary one. And how we need to guard it from negative thoughts. How true he is! Indeed we ought to learn that all that we have, are gifts of the Lord, given unasked. And the only way, we can repay to the Great Giver, is by using them judiciously and sensibly.
We ought to know that every negative thought we let into our fragile minds eats away into our little joys and sucks us of the energy we hardly care to use. It is sheer foolishness to have negative thoughts in our minds. Whenever we are messed up, and things quite seem to go against us, we need to realize, that, throwing around our anger, and ripping our hair apart with fear and frustration will hardly help us overcome our downfalls.
Negative thoughts usually come to those who quickly lose hold of their confidence, that they cannot handle things anymore, and the fear of failure creeps in. They lose hope. As far as I understand, there is nothing worse that could happen to man, than the thought that he cannot do, which is the genesis of the sense of hopelessness. And this is where man proves that he is a man. By facing them and snaring at Time in His eye and telling Him
that he can face it.
The difference between great men and the rest of us is that they can continue toiling towards what they want, no matter how long it takes. They have learnt the secret of working, yet at the same time, waiting. We have to learn to wait. The act of waiting itself shows, that we are not moaning impatiently; that we do not think negatively. Has not Milton said, ?They also serve, who only stand and wait??
This does not connote that we stay passive. The mantra is to toil and toil with a mountain of patience, and that He shall bless?
Life is like an unknown sea. We do not know what comes, ahead of us, we might get to see fantastic, beautiful islands, or might have to face the violent sea storms. But we got to row on, and sail through. We should know that in this adventure, our greatest foe is the shark of negative thoughts. This shark can bite through our tender skin and make us lame.
And once lame, we lose our balance; we drop off the oars and sink and perish.
That is not what we want. Letting negative thoughts into our minds, is like destroying all the torches in a gold mine and making way for darkness, thereby losing all opportunities to discover the great wealth that hides in this gold mine.
