Freedom At Midnight
(dominique and lapeirre collins)
In one of their most celebrated novels on the Indian Freedom Struggle, the authors speak of the partition of India and Pakistan, this abstract deals with that line of thought. Fifty nine years have passed since a Britisher in the carotgraphy department of the East India Company, with absolutely no knowledge of the Indian subcontinent, sat down and drew a line dividing the siamese twins India and Pakistan. his pen set in motion one of the most brutal and bloody riots the civilized world has ever known, thousands of homes were torched, thousands were burnt alive, pregnant mothers had theirs foetuses torn out of their bodies. The air was heavy with the smell of Fear, Death and Insanity,as neighbours and best friends pounced upon each other with blood-thirsty vengeance. Fast forward to the present, today India is a developing nation, well poised to become a superpower. Time and again it has offered its hand to Pakistan, in an effort to bridge the gulf thet was created three score years ago, but all wounds are hard to heal. The two nations still view each other with proverbial distrust and barely veiled hatred. Pakistan has continued with its bleed India policies, by supporting infiltration and terrorism in Kashmir, all in the name of Jehaad. The animosity between Pakistan and India, that existed fifty nine years ago, has slowly metamorphosed into hatred between the largest communities, of Hindus and Muslims. Not a day goes by, without heart rending tales of communal violence. people are cut into pieces, like vegetables. Human blood is spilt like worthless water. Its time we woke up to the fact that beyond the outer garb of religion, we all have a human heart, which beats for love and amity always, let's promise to stand up and act in the name of peace and goodwill. let's join hands together and endeavour to make India and pakistan peaceful friend and loving neighbours.
