Habakkuk 3:17 Habakkuk known as a minor prophet in the Old Testament of the Bible, was known for his faith-attitude. Faith was not what he practiced as an act, but Faith was his attitude. Most of us are very keen on exercising faith for self, but here was a man who exercised faith for the whole nation, in spite of knowing well that the answer for his prayer would be manifested at a time when he would cease to exist on earth. Habakkuk was upset with the iniquity of Israel. He prayed to God and questioned God on the devastation that Israel was raking on himself. God replied stating the onslaught of the Babylonians over the Israelites as a penalizing reprimand from God on high. On hearing this Habakkuk wept in ashes and cried to the Lord, questioning the Lord that how could the Lord allow pagan worshippers to dominate the select and the chosen generation of the Lord. The Lord explained that God would subdue the Chaldeans under the Israelites and reveal and prove His Almighty?s presence and strength. God said that this would happen when He decides to do and not when Habakkuk wants to see the results. Habakkuk realized his nothingness and understood that God is omnipotent and omniscient and proves His word when He says; ?I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy. I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion?. Habakkuk broke forth in singing when his spiritual eyes of understanding were opened. He knew that God had answered his prayers and that it was just the matter of time for the answer to be manifested in the tangible. Which is when he sings the classic hymn sung all over the world today: Though the fig tree shall not blossom and the vine shall bear no fruit, though the labor of the olive fail? We too need to activate similar faith and be found of cheerful joy at all times. We may not be able to see the answer to our prayers and requests right now OR today!! But we need to believe that our prayers have fallen into the ears of a living and the only true God of Israel. Not aching to see the tangible results that our wicked flesh craves to feel, but rather giving room to faith, we need to trust in God all times.
