I feel the above mentioned book by Erich Seagal, is just the kind of book to curl up with, on a nice summer day. Most of us are busy, in our daily lives. We rarely read anthologies or gripping but dragging novels. This novel is a portable one which makes one want to read it till the end no matter what. Truly, Erich Seagal has proved himself the master of new age romance. This book takes us back to an era, typical American culture, innuendos, family, it's all there. Most of all, the casual, easy-going and somewhat punkish cool attitude and dialogue, of the protagonists make this quite an interesting read. Basically, it's about this young man Oliver, son of a very very, wealthy and idealistic family,who studies at Harvard. It's about how this heartthrob sportstar and scion finds love in someone,who likes him for him and not for his surname,very unlike thousands who throw themselves at him. A heart rending romance follows, culminating in marriage and initial hardship, despite opposition and severance of ties with Olivers family. The girl, Jennifer's father is supportive, however till the end. The end is truly tragic. Jenny dies while in labour. Phil and Oliver console each other. Oliver is feeling horrible, till at the hospital, he finds a supportive hand on his arm. His father, Oliver Barrett III, whom he'd shunned, because of his father's attitude of pushing him to be the best from childhood. During this period of separation, Oliver Sr. had tried to reconcile, had even helped out his son with money, not knowing that it went towards Jennifer's hospital treatment. Later he knows and the last lines are a prelude to the sequel, which no doubt you'd surely grab after reading this book. "Why did'nt you tell me Oliver?"asks Mr Barrett Sr. "And I cried"!
I doubt there's a sizeable chunk of people left, who haven't read Love Story at an young age. This is what it endorses, youth, spark, romance, ties,college,everything you need to go back to the past.
