Write your abstract here.midsummers night dream is a comedy play of world famous dramatist william shakespeare.it is tinted with humour supernatural presence and fickleness of humankind.theseus duke of athens is betrothed to queen hippolita queen of the amazons.then egeus father of hermia pays a visit to the duke to make a complaint. he wants hermia to marry demetrius a wealthy gentleman but she loves lysander.law of athens compels a girl to follow her fathers wishes and desires about marriage. otherwise she ll be killed or will be destined to remain a virgin ever.
hermia tells the duke that lysander is equally good wealthy and able.more over demetrius loved her friend helena for a long time and then with no apparent reason turned to her.so hermia says he is untrust worthy also.so theseus asks egeus to give his daughter fourdays time to rethink and then he will give his opinion.
lysander and hermia then thinks about their future.lysander says that world history proves that love cannot come to fruition without tears,warm sighs and struggles.hermia says its difficult to love through another ones eyes eventhough he is a beloved father.
then they makes a plan to escape.lysander has a widow aunty .she lives not in athens.so that place is not bound to obey rules of athens.she lives seven leagues away from the nearbywood.so lysander says he will wait for hermiain the wood a league away from the town next night.that wood is familiar to hem as they have gone to pleasure trip there in pairs.they and helena demetrius.
lysander leaves and then comes helena .she is complaining that hermia is too fair and she lost her lover .hermia reveals her plan to elope to console helena.
in woods oberon, king of the fairies and his wife titania has come to attend the marriage of theseus and hippolitta. they are in a quarellsome mood as each of them wants to own a beautiful orphan boy.Oberon wants the boy to be his page.as he is the son of her friend titania wants to make him his attendant.so king and quen quarelled.
meanwhile helena informed demetrius about hermias elopement and they also come to the wood.
the innocent helena is following the hateful lover.oberon sees this couple and wants to help her.he calls a fairy puckor robingood fellow to solve all the problems.there is a beautiful flower which is called love in idleness.the juice of it when applied to eyes will make one love the first thing appeared before him when he opens his eyes.so oberon wants puck to apply this juice drops in queens eyes ,make an animal before her and make her ashamed in her love to that animal.more over he wants to help helena by applying love potion to her lovers eyes.
puck goes apply the juice to sleeping queens eyes.there is a team of clowns and actors who wants to perform a play on dukes wedding day.they also came to the wood to practice.oberon made one clown unconsious and joined a head of ass to him and made him stand before the queen.
queen titania opened hr eyes fell in love with the ass head.that made her embarassed and to make for it she gave the boy to her husband.after that oberon lifted the charm from her eyes and made the clown also normal.
but by mistake puck poured the juice to lysanders eyes and he began to love helena.not knowing how this happens he loves helena .both hermia and helena dont follow this farce.
oberon asks puck to do it again properly and he drops love juice on demetrius eyes.so he also loves helena.
so all things are upside down now.hermia is abandoned .
but oberon lifts the charm off lysander and he naturally begins to love hermia.so everything ends well and happy.
the staging of the drama for the couple is also very important.quince the carpenter,snug the joiner,bottom the weaver etc stages the drama.they act as lion,wall etc.that also gives an insight of old drama tradition and the part of working class in art etc
the midsummers night dream is a happy world with little faults and inconsistencies .the concept of love juice itself is too much dreamy and supernatural.
what is beauty?what creates love?what is fidelity?alll these qusetions are raised through this drama bustling with joy and hilarity.
