Lions for Lambs

Lions for Lambs (Lions for Lambs, 2007) is more an American film making worldwide chorus of criticism against the aggressive and warmongering of the U.S., particularly its foreign policy. The difference is that in this film, we have an authentic "film market" (or blockbuster, like the film industry likes to call it), largely because of the famous cast and directed by Robert Redford. As for the cast, which includes Redford himself, we have interests of Michael Peña (Crash, on the edge and the Twin Towers), first as a student and then as a soldier, and Tom Cruise (born July 4) in the role of a senator outspoken supporter of the Republican "war on terror", a role that, say by the way, fits him too well, for your face clean and cynical of the powerful ram. Besides them, hangs over the whole film a magnificent work of the great Meryl Streep, as might be expected, that it truly illuminates the scene with his interpretation of safe, free of clichés, bringing up an interesting role as an experienced reporter who will to meet the Republican senator when he calls for an exclusive interview. He plans to announce a new offensive in Afghanistan as a solution, still according to the senator, to the quagmire in which they put their country. The senator, whose professional relationship with that reporter a date field it pointing it as the future of the Republican Party, want to convince her not only to inform the new offensive, but to defend it blindly. According to him, in words which leave no doubt about his vision, "we are on the same team, you (the press) and I (government) ... we had his full support ... you can not miss us now. "It turns out that the reporter feels the burning smell in the air when he sees several clear similarities with the Vietnam War, where she began her career as a reporter, and decides, surprisingly, to oppose the matter pre-ready, putting your point of view otherwise. Its editor, pragmatic, says in so many words: "Your vision will never see the light of day," a breath of reactionary so popular in mainstream media.Lions for Lambs deserves to be seen not only by the unique presence of Meryl Streep, but also by the talented direction of Robert Redford, much better known as an actor who is renowned. Highlight for the opening scene, a succession of beautiful pictures interspersed showing the reality of the main characters, and climax of the film, whose subtle touch softens the harsh reality of war and death that are the fighters in Afghanistan. The unfortunate indeed as almost always when it comes to American films, the shallow political interpretation, the same blind. The old cliche of "we must do something" is coming on strong in the role of the professor (Robert Redford), who struggles to motivate a relapse, but talented student to "do more". There can be no doubt about the twisted motivations of the teacher when we cry to the student: "Rome is burning, son."He turned for granted, even in the U.S., compare all current setbacks, coupled with a declining number one in relative terms (as well as the historian Paul Kennedy shows) in the U.S. before the world as signs of decline of the "empire". Lack crucial step in the analysis, largely because there is so far in the movies real will to tackle the causes of the problems the most powerful nation on the planet, in a quixotic battle, and therefore doomed to failure against solely , the harmful consequences of its imperialist policies.
