One L
(Scott Turow)
Account of Turow's first year at Harvard Law. Wonderful book if you are interested in going into law school and want to find out what it's like at the most presigious law school in the country. The opening lines are the most gripping ones you'll ever read, and perhaps the most nerve wracking too, if you do want a degree in law! Find out what the socratic method is like, and how profs use it to terrorize their students. Experience the petty politics of backstabbing classmates, and the excrutiating competition to make the law review. Perhaps even glean a few pearls of wisdom from someone who has sufferent through and survived! Word of advice, the book was written in the last 1970s so take some things with a grain of salt. However, it is Harvard, thus a school founded on tradition, so chances are things haven't changed that much. I'd definitely still recommend reading it.
