Donkey Cons: Sex Crime And Corruption In The Democratic Party
(Lynn Vincent; Robert Stacy McCain)
Flies in the face of the popular notion that the Republicans are the party of corruption. Incredibly well researched and footnoted - Cogent and Forceful. No Quarter! While no book could encyclopedically catalog all of the corruption in the Democrat party, consider this book a rough guide. More than a litany of Democratic misdeeds, Donkey Cons demonstrates the shocking disregard for the rule of law by generations of Democrats. Vincent and McCain's insightful analysis of Democratic corruption and the enabling role played by the media paints a disturbing picture. At times ridiculing but never becoming a rant, liberal readers will be gratified to see the authors are unafraid to tackle corruption in the Republican party as well. Of particular interest to me as a Metro Detroiter, was the chapter devoted to the Democrat-enabled decline of our nation's cities - no city was hit so hard by rioting and corruption. No intelligent individual who lived through Mayor Coleman Young's administration could question his basic incompetence and corruption. His lowering of standards in police recruitment, openly racist rhetoric, eviction of whites by threats, harassment and eminent domain and corruption in awarding city contracts to cronies and companies with "preferred racial demographics" have had a devastating effect on Detroit, multiplying the effects of the '67 riots. All this is true, and yet the authors were too easy on hizzoner, apparently the editors did not allow them enough space to remind readers of his habit of swearing during TV interviews or the degree to which he looted the Mayoral mansion when he left office. Donkey Cons went to press just before Abramoff was convicted, however the book does offer a fair and reasonable breakdown of the party affiliations of the members of congress who were potentially tainted by receipt of Abramoff money (more Democrats on this list than you might expect). Sadly, among them is Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, who adamantly refuses to give back the tainted "dough" despite the fact that others on both sides of the aisle have already done so. If the Democrats take the authors' advice and own up to their part in the scandal (as the Republican leadership did) they may start to win elections again; but then, they ignored old Zell Miller until he finally quit the party, so why would they start listening now? As an American, I hope that they do listen, because the lack of a strong opposition party does nothing to further political debate in this country; having well-reasoned opponents makes us better Republicans. Perhaps the most scathing indictment of corruption in the Democrat party is not the "rap sheet" (Chapter 2), but rather the degree to which Democrats have become increasingly dependent on the employment of inflated statistics, divisive and misleading arguments in support of their failed social programs. This is a theme that the authors touch on briefly through their historical survey and one which could be a book in and of itself. As Ronald Reagan once said, "I didn't leave the Democrat party, the Democrats left me". Many new converts to the Republican party were driven to leave the Democrats because of their weak stance on national defense and softness on terrorism. So it will come as a shock to some that the pattern of selling out our national security is nothing new. Countless scandals (Chinagate) and instances of giving aid and comfort to the enemy abound in the last generation. Students of history will not be surprised however; the Democrat party was co-founded by the treasonous Aaron Burr. Civil-war era "Copperhead" Democrats and Jim-Crow segregationists exemplify the unbroken thread of treason and malfeasance has been an integral part of the Democrat platform on through to the present. And the hits just keep coming... Just in case you thought that that the authors had gotten all of the liberals, here are some recent stories that were either not included in the book or which have juicy updates. Cynthia McKinney D-Georgia who asked for clemency for convicted killer Mumia Abu-Jamal (5 eyewitnesses saw him pull the trigger), just slugged a Capitol Hill police officer and then blamed the incident on the officer's racism! Way to blame the victim Cynthia! Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's lavish living, funded through his city-issued credit card became a campaign issue during his reelection and may have been reelected by phony votes. John Conyers D-Detroit uses his highly-paid congressional staffers to tutor his failing son at the taxpayer's expense (whom he sends to an exclusive private school to escape the failing Detroit school district) - while opposing vouchers that might give the poor the same opportuniteis as rich congressmen like him! How about "sharing the wealth" congressman Conyers? You will find plenty more updates at the: Donkey Cons Blog.
