On The Banks Of The River Piedra
(Paulo Coelho)
This is a love story that begins in childhood, with the separation during adolescence and the reunion more than ten years later. Their love is strong and their story symbolises the gift of self-consciousness, of respect for the Other. God enters into the spirit of the young man and brings about confusion between the two lovers. Obstacles arise such as prejudice and the feeling of wrong-doing. Then the two protagonists decide to retreat to a remote village in the Pyrenees to discover the truth about themselves. The story is filled with strong feelings and emotion, with a morality that's mixed but not indecent. It's a story that brings a tear to the eye.
