The Sheltering Sky

The Sheltering Sky brings together all the elements of a travelors exhausting trip into the unknown territory of Tangier, and Morracco. The elements that a travelor is not like a tourist in that you can never go home and they don't, at least the female protaganist Kit never does. Her boyfriend manages to die from malaria and her love affair with Port, her other traveling companion, ends when he leaves to go back to NYC. The Sheltering Sky as a title seems to be mostly inferring to KIt who finds no real shelter with her companions but underneath the Sky she finds a commune since this trip proves to be never ending. The climate of the story is hot yet the characters are cool in their dealings with themsleves and others.
