The Real Thing
(Catherine Alliot)

Publicidade
This book is one of the many stories about mid-life crisis

or about housewives with children who are on the verge
of

it.

The main character in this book is Tess, a

daughter of a vicar who as a little girl, was expected
to

be a diligent and good student. Nonetheless, when she
grew

up as a teenager, she surreptitiously went out with

Patrick, whose father is the most hated enemy of hers.
As a

result, the relationship didn't really last that long
but

the fond memory stays with Tess throughout her life.
Even

up to when she's with her present husband.

After

twelve years of wedlock, and two children, Tess wonders
if

she'd chosen the right man. The unexpected encounter
with

her first love, Patrick, the only other man she'd ever
been

with in her life, has shaken up her
marriage.

It,s a

brilliant romance, full of unthinkable twists. The

characters' life can reflect anybody's. Tess, who has
been

feeling browned off by domestic routine, is suddenly

carried away carried away by the thought of adultery
that

has been suggested blatantly by her seductive cousin
Penny.

Whilst poor David, the loyal husband of Tess, has known
all

along that his beloved wife can't get over her first
love.

So sad is he that he reccommends that she does
something

undignified for the sake of her happiness. However,
after

uncle Robert's funeral, the situation gets out of hand
when

Tess is flabbergasted to find out her father's dark
secret,

followed by her mother's, but it's her sister's that
leaves

her most gobsmacked.

The novel is superbly
observed.

Not only can you picture the main characters in your
mind,

but also the locations and other not so important
aspects

in it. The language used is easily absorbed with some

commong French phrases. Although the story line is

complex, it is delivered smoothly, so subtly that it

doesn't make your head spin.

it's a top notch

romantic story. I couldn't put it down because I was
so

engrossed in it. It's definetly a page turner.
