The Little Prince
(Antoine De Saint-Exupery)
Antoine De Saint Exupery wrote the novel The Little Prince to explain his search for answers to his questions about what is important in life. At an early age he discovered the most people do not search below the surface to find the real message, importance or beauty in thins. In his bood, he takes time to explain the importance of seeing the truth in order to find beauty. The author of The Little Princelets us know that most grown ups have lost the fire and enthusiasm that children possess. He found that their conversations about grown up matters were dull and boring. It seems they had lost the ability to put their hearts into real life issues; instead they chose to function on a level devoid of emotion. In the book The Little Prince decides to travel to various planets, seeking the answers to life. He visits different planets and learns a new lesson from each individual he meets. For instance, he learns that it is not wise to rush through life because you never have time to appreciate things; that facts and figures sometimes hide the real meaning of life; counting your many assets gives you little time to enjoy life. Perhaps his greatest life lesson was the fact that in order to understand the real meaning of life, one must look inside himself first. The real problem, to the Princes' way of thinking, is that man is obsessed with all the wrong things, such as wealth, power and fame. Things of the world will never satisfy man's inner being. They are temporary pacifiers. They lull and soothe, provide momentary satisfaction. They never satisfy the soul. Thus, man is always searching for more adventure, bigger challenges, better rewards. The book The Little Prince seems to suggest that man may be better off if he puts less emphasis on things of the world and begins to look inside himself for the answers to his woes. If he would concentrate on the things that really matter; brotherly love, faith, wisdom, compassion, respect and reverence his lot in life would be much better. If we begin to look inside ourselves and develop our God given talents and gifts, we could progress to the next level of understanding. Perhaps by prayer, fasting and study we could tap into our true spirit, the spirit that most closely resembles the likeness of God! The truly enlightened individual knows that the obvious is often hardest to see!
