This book was a gift from a famous friend mailed to me in Dublin Ireland in 1994!
The story behind the gift is quite extraordinary - it is as follows: I was walking my dog one day along side the river in Dublin and I chanced to meet an American Film Director: he stopped to talk to the dog and then in the usual polite way this triggered off a conversation between me and this Film Director.
We got to talking about my work/at that point in time I was writing a play for the Theatre and was heavily involved in this project! My erstwhile companion suddenly changed the conversation and invited me to write a script for his current movie project in Ireland for one million dollars! Unfortunately at that point I was under contract to the Theatre and could not take up his offer! So, tore my hair out with so much
temptation thrown my way on rather pleasant Wednesday in Dublin Ireland.
I wrote off to my very famous friend in London explained my dilemma! He in turn sent me an autographed copy of this book:
My Caravaggio Style! I picked up on his introduction and Forward! The author Doris Langley is a leading British writer who has contributed during the past thirty years to the transformation of the study of Lord Byron. In 1988 there was a celebration of the bicentary of Lord Byron's birth!
My Caravaggio Style was first published in 1959 by Cassell and has long been out of print It was reviewed thus /a book for book lovers by a book lover/ that's a tongue twister if ever I heard one! The novel can be read like any immaculately written detective story - I read the book - and thoroughly enjoyed it! I recommend it.
This introduction was signed by: MICHAEL FOOT in 1988!
And indeed it was Michael Foot who mailed me a signed copy! Thanks a million Michael for that gift!
