The Politiken Cat Book

If you don't know what a cat is, then the Politiken Cat Book is for you. The book's title sounds fine, especially when aware that Politiken is a well respected publishing company. But as a cat owner and enthused user of the web I can disappointingly conclude that not many useful informations is found in this book that could not otherwise be found on the net. Of course it can be used to an extent if you are a first time cat owner, but that's as far as it goes. It is full of too obvious informations and by using the internet you can easily find information like the ones in the book for free. It does not cover the subject well. For instance in the chapter on diseases. Certainly, knowing why and how is very well but you might as well go to the veterinarian no matter what, since they must give a more precise evaluation and are able to discover the illness quicker. In the chapter on nutrition I must say some of the content borders as irresponsible. Especially the home made recipes for the catfood. A cat for instance must not have too much pasta if any at all, but the nice photo shows a fair bowl of pasta and meatballs. Many cat owners might feel tempted to prepare this attractive (human) dish for the animal, but this is nutrionally incorrect. It offers some nice and cute cat photos but that is about all this book is useful for. It presents suggestions and quick solutions but you need an average type cat for the book to be proficient. Not much of it is useful except for what is just about minimally essential to not be lost on the subject. This book is not recommended as the only source for cat care.It only covers the most essential areas which you would probably find out for free anyway if you surfed the net and more precise information if you ask your vet. Regardless of the nice title, nothing much is gained from this book.
