LAL BAHADUR SHASTRI?
October 2 reminds us the birthday of other great son of India.
Yes it is LalBahdur Shastri.He was been on Oct 2,1994 at Moghalsarai in U.P. His father died when Shastri was a toddler. So, he was brought up by his maternal grandfather, Shastriji?s childhood was spent in poverty.
Mr.Shastru was attracted toward freedom movement at the age of 17 He took part in the non-cooperation movement launched by Mahatma Gandhi. This was the time when he went to jail>After his release he joined Kashi Vidyapith.Here he studied at the feet of great Teachers like late Dr.Bhagwan Das from the Kashi Vidyapeeth he secured his Shastri degree which became a part of his name.
Mr.Shastri took part in freedom movement. In 1926,he joined the servants of the People Society started by Late Lajpat Rai.
Between 1953 and 1964 Mr.Shastri was several times a member of India?s council of ministers. After the death of Mr. Nehru in May 1964,he was unanimously chosen to succeed him as the Prime minister of India. Early in1965, the south was shaken by a violent anti Hindu agitation. But with his tact patience and skill. Mr Shastri was successful in bringing the situation back to normal within a short time.
Those were testing times and they brought out the best in Mr.Shastri. In dealing with Pakistan, he gave proof of Statesmanship of a high order. He gave a chance to Pakistan to return to the path of peace. But two months later, Pakistan invaded Kashmir. Then Mr.Shastri hit backhard. The man of peace was forced to lead his people into a fierce conflict for saying.
During the conflict, Mr.Shastri displayed rare courage and combativeness. After the cease-fire, he was even more relentless in the cause of peace with honour.He agreed to meet President Ayub in Tashkent. There he signed an assignment.
He gave the last once of energy in his small frame to win the peace. But fate struck him, he died within a few hours of signing the agreement at Tashkent.
When he was the rdailway Minster he was responsible for two-tire and two- tier. Sleeping accomdation for 3rd class passengers and electric fans filled in 3rd class compartments and that service was also introduced.
