My Sister's Keeper
(Jodi Picoult)

Publicidade
Written from six different perspectives, My Sister's Keeper is a heart wrenching novel about Anna, a young girl who is suing her parents for the medical rights to her own body. A genetically designed baby, Anna has been a donor since she was born. She is a donor for Kate, her older sister, who was diagnosed with leukaemia when she was only three years old.

The story follows Anna's journey through this difficult time as she secures a lawyer, battles with her guilt over the case and explores the relationships she has with her sister, brother, both parents, her attorney and the guardian assigned to her for the duration of the case.

With six narrators we are able to access a diverse range of emotions, and an even more diverse range of memories as the characters reflect on decisions made, happier times and how they wish things could be different. Jodi has made her characters believable and likeable, and the choices they make seem realistic. It is also an informative read, and touches lightly on the medical side, although it does not delve too deeply into the treatments that Kate has to endure.

Although there are several passages that bring a tear to the eye, it is not until the final few chapters that I found myself sobbing like a baby ? the end has a few twists and is definitely not for reading on public transport.

An excellent book, and definitely worth a read ? even if you do need to keep the tissues handy!
