Wicked

Wicked is a sensational work by Gregory Maguire that not only lets us learn more about the Oz we know, but also offers us new perspectives on the land we all would have loved to have visited.
We learn of the relationship between the two sisters: Elphalba, who would grow to become the Wicked witch of the west, and Nessarose, her sister, who would grow to become the Witch of the east.
We also learn of the relationship and friendship between Galinda, who later changes her name to Glinda, and Elphalba. Their relationship and friendship takes some very unusual turns, filled with adventure.
Wicked also paints a diffrent picture of the mild and meek wizard that we all discover at the end of the Wizard of Oz. In the opinion of this reader he was a vicious controlling man who tried to run everyones lives in Wicked.
You also discover that in her own way, the Wicked Witch, also known as Elphalba, although she claimed not to have a soul, actually does good deeds, and even falls in Love.
The book also tells of the diffrent people from the diffrent parts of Oz, from The Munshkinlanders, to the Quaddlings and the diffrent parts of Oz from which they come.
You also learn that after the Wizard of Oz there still were adventures in Oz through a surprise in the last part of the book.
It is a long book that took me weeks to finish, but it was well worth every hour I spent.
