Pride And Prejudice
(Jane Austen)

Publicidade
Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice is a novel of manners from the 1700's. It pokes gentel fun at the mores of Austen's time period through its quirky characters and the situtions they find themselves in because of thier own senses of pride and thier own prejudices. In the first half of the novel Eliza Bennet, the main female character is thrown into the society of new neighbors from London when her manipulative mother decides that one of her daughters should marry one of the eligible and wealthy bacholers. She develops a great dislike for Mark Darcy, the main male character due to his seemingly excessive pride and his prejudices against the lower classes of which she feels he considers her one. She does not however see her own prejudices against him and his lifestyle, nor her own pride. Their is a great deal of comedy in the form of misunderstanding throughout the book. Such as the true relationship between Darcy and Wikham. Is Wikham the misreated gentelman that he claims to be? And if so why does Darcy hate him so much? Could it really bebecause of Wikhams humble beginnings? The key to this relationship is the key to the relationship between Eliza and Darcy. If Eliza and Darcy can only set aside thier pride and preconceived ideas about eachother they will finally understand that it is love and mustual admiration that motivates their choices and actions. In the end all becomes clear there are no loose ends to any of the side stories and everyone gets what they deserve, good and bad. Though the story is set hundreds of years ago it is told so tongue in cheek that it is very readable to the modern day mind. It may also be helpful to note that there have been several film renderings of this movie which portray the story acuratly. It is a joy to watch and great fun to read.
