The Crevasse
(Vladimir Volkoff)

Publicidade
A very emotional book about a Serbian family caught up in the horrors of the Bosnian war. It all starts during the second world war. Trifoun is a Pope and father to seven children. Hi sees his whole family massacred by
the Croatians and the muslims who had allied with the Nazis. All the corpses are thrown into a crevasse which is then closed off with concrete slab. Trifoun finds himself alone and joins the tcheknicks side (royalists).
Captured by the communists from Tito, he succeeds in surviving only by signing a blood pact with a political commissioner since all his commrades are relentlessly slaughtered... In a fluid and clear style Vladimir Volkoff then recounts the communist years, the slow rise of Trifoun, the couragous reconstruction of a second family. Then the Bosnian war begins and the Serbs are once again on the wrong side of the barracade. The bubble will be burst in the blood at the bottom of this famous crevasse. Aside from the literary interest of the book which is certain (it makes you think inevitably of "Zero to infinity' or 'The recrucification of Christ", this book based on real facts (Volkoff was a big scourge of disinformation and media lie) rehabilitates the Serbs who were simply
fighting for their land and their identity. Once again they are beaten by history, following their endless destiny of martyred people. A strong book, an honest book, a couragous book. Volkoff you left us recently, and
we miss him already....
