The Da Vinci Code
(Dan Brown)

Publicidade
The Da Vinci Code was three quarters of a great novel. Its subject was fascinating ? the idea of the sacred feminine is nothing particularly new in some circles but to find such a topic presented in such an entertaining way was incredibly refreshing. So many people have become tired of the formulaic action adventure that the idea of a novel set around the heart of the Catholic state was bound to get people talking, which is the first way to a successful novel. Love it or hate it, you have to read it.
The intricate way in which it was plotted made for fascinating reading. Whether all the premises it put forward were strictly based in fact or not (this having been one of the most heated arguments put forward by detractors of the novel and, incidently the subject of at least 3 spin-off books that would never have seen print were it not for the success of the original) it was written in such a way that you wanted to believe they were true. However, the final quarter descends into the realms of a Bruce Willis action movie. So many coincidences, lucky escapes and spectacular confessions just don?t belong in something that was, to a certain point a very superior novel. Yet I find this to be true of all Dan Brown?s novels. I, personally, would think more than twice at committing myself to write, never mind finish, a novel, but then it is not my name that is on everyone?s lips. In more than one other novel does a very interesting work of literature find itself becoming farcical as the author desperately seeks a way out of the traps he has created for himself. I can almost hear his agent breathing down the phone, telling him has until midnight or the deal?s off. Sadly, these extremely well thought out novels were only thought out until about page 450 and then it seems the author left it to the very fickle fates to find him an ending. Unfortunately, they are not as good at writing novels as he is.
