JOY

Introduction

Every individual in this earth perhaps desires happiness. Nobody would love to be sad or depressed. Whenever a person shares a feeling of ecstasy or pleasure it is referred as joy.

Is joy uniform for all?

The word joy has a broader applicability in the sense that a source of joy for one person need not necessarily be for the other. However there are some common elements that satisfy or make everyone happy. A festival occasion is one such example. During a festival everyone is happy irrespective of sex, status age etc. It is also to be understood that there are exceptions even in this case. By and large a vast majority of the population enjoys lot of happiness on such occasion.

At the same it needs to be kept in mind that too much of joy will do more harm than good. It is important that they don?t exceed the optimum level.

Sources of Joy

The sources of joy are innumerable. A businessman feels happy on accomplishing the target. A student feels happy on securing a good job or high marks. A motorist feels happy during the course of riding his motorcycle. A politician feels happy after winning an election. A doctor feels happy on saving a patient?s life. From the examples stated above it is not right to infer that fulfilling professional goals alone leads to joy. Even trivial matter and those not having a substantial result monetary or otherwise leads to joy. For example if a person?s hobby is gardening he might be happy during the moments spent in a garden. This does not again restrict joy to hobby or a person?s liking. A person may not have liking for a particular thing or may not be aware of it. In any case a person?s mind could change and the circumstances might favor him to develop a liking for the same. For example if a science student does not like studying arts subjects. After he might choose a particular course that covers his favorite subjects he comes to discover that there are some compulsory subjects in arts as a part of this curriculum. He would not choose to ignore this course due to humanities it he is stubborn and convicted in learning his desired subject. Once he involves in humanities he may develop equal and been interest. This might enthuse him to learn humanities. Therefore the student learns to develop interest in the unexplored areas also. This also happens in day-to-day life. Therefore it is not sane to have utmost disregard for anything without going through the details properly or analyzing it.

Categories of joy

The other classifications of joy could be on the basis of long and short term and virtue and vice. Certain factors of joy could only momentary and short term some at the examples include watching a movie enjoying a part. On the other hand long-term joys could be secured job, lucrative salary, recognition in the society or establishing a business empire. The next category is very important. Rather than analyzing if there is happiness or not it becomes more important to understand if they are from a good or bad cause. For example bad habits like smoking and drinking also yields joy. They produce undesirable consequences in the long run. As a matter of fact the human mind is prone to accept such temptations without even bothering if they are ethical or not.

Money and joy

Many people think that material gains give them happiness. They even go to the extent of rephrasing the good old proverb in the following manner. If character is lost nothing lost, if health is lost something is lost but if wealth is lost every thing is lost. The quench for power and money in the present scenario is the root cause for all problems.

Conclusion

Joy lies in individual?s perception. It has also been said, ?one man?s food is the other man?s poison?. One should remember the fact that he or she should not curtail the activities of others and adopt all means to make him happy such joy will not last forever and will bring him untold misery in the long run. We need to be contented and look for happiness in every minute aspect keeps ourselves happy make every one happy and thereby make this world a happier palace to live.
