The Mother
(Sri Aurobindo)
The Mother. (Part-1). Complete Surrender. An aspiration, a craving from below asks and a supreme Grace from above answers the eternal question. But conditions of Light and Truth are the prerequisites for the answer to come from top. Falsehood and ignorance act as deterrent for the answers. There must be a total surrender to the divine power to descend. Any deviation will drive the divine Grace away. The gates to desires, egoistic demands and vital insistences must be closed to allow divine Grace to operate. One must reject the false expectation that even surrender will be arranged. It must be spontaneous. A distinction has to be made between inert passivity and true surrender as the former keeps one susceptible to bad influence while the later acts as a shield. Veil of Yoga Maya. Anything that happens in this universe is through the veiled Shakti (Power) of the divine, Yoga Maya, which is shrouded with the veil that acts through the ego of humans. So long as the lower nature is prevalent, personal efforts are necessary. But what does an effort comprise of? There are three parts integral to the effort. They are aspiration that is the mind?s will, rejection ? which is shedding off of desires and the third is complete surrender. As the surrender progresses, the conscious process is replaced by man?s own effort. It is important to remember that an imperfect surrender is a deception and cannot bring the desired result. Grace of the Mother To conduct oneself through the travails of life without any fear only two things are required, the Grace of the Divine Mother and an unflinching faith. The more complete is the faith, sincerity and surrender, the more will grace and protection be with the person. The touch of grace can turn difficulties into opportunities, failure into success and weakness into unfaltering strength. The grace of the Divine Mother is decreed, inevitable and irresistible for those who can repose complete faith in Her. Money Money is an essential force. It is one of the vital three that are power, wealth and sex. These have the strongest appeal. But the problem with money is that its seekers or keepers turn more possessed than possessors. Wealth should be regarded as a power to be won back for the Mother and placed at her services. Any perturbations of mind regarding money and its use or any grievance regarding money are a sure indication of some imperfection and bondage. One should be impervious to poverty as much as to riches and treat these as mere means of livelihood. Perfection An ideal doer of divine work must be free from all desire and self-regarding ego. He must grow in the divine consciousness till there is no difference between his will and that of the Mother. There must be no attachment to the work or result. The last stage of perfection will come when the person will completely identify himself with the Divine Mother as if there is no longer another separate being. The man will feel that he has been formed out of her by her. This is perfect synchronism ushering in flawless, luminous, spontaneous outflow from the supreme.
