THE CLEVER DONKEY
Once there lived a merchant. He was doing business with salt. He had a donkey to help his business. He used his donkey to carry his goods to the market. The donkey was trained well in such a way that she carried all the goods and walked to the market alone and stayed at the market till the arrival of his master. Sometimes he followed the donkey till it was fluent on his route. On the way to market, she had to cross a stream, which was a little difficult for him.
One day, while trying to cross the stream, unexpectedly she slipped and fell into the stream. Since the salt bags were tied with a strong rope, the bags didn't fall into the from her back. But she suffered injuries and it took sometime for her to stand. Suddenly she could feel the difference in weight of the bags. Again she laid down in the stream and after sometime stood up and felt the weight was reduced considerably. Then she was happy to carry the bags and went to the market. On that day, the merchant sold all of his salt bags, but the money received by him was not as usual. He was confused but could not understand the reason for that.
Daily the donkey went into the stream and reduced the weight of the bags and went to the market. After a few days, the merchant followed the donkey without its knowledge. Then he understood why he was at loss in his business. While the donkey was sitting in the stream, a substantial quantity of the salt was dissolved in the water. That was the real reason for the donkey to be happy and the loss for the merchant. Then he wanted to teach a lesson to the donkey to avoid further loss. From next day, he changed his salt business and started cotton business. He put all the cotton bags on the back of the donkey. As usual, the donkey started to walk from his place. She stright away went to the stream and sat down for a while to reduce its weight. But she felt that the weight had increased when she came out of the water. It was too much for her. She could not walk further. She wanted to relax herself for a while. She had a small nap. When she stood up, she could feel the difference in the weight. It had reduced a lot. In fact, she ran away to the market and waited for her master to come. Again, after a few days, her master followed her and he was really surprised to see the actions of the donkey. Though she did not know that the weight was more because of the wet cotton and again it was reduced because of the sunlight. The merchant could not beleive his eyes. He appriciated the donkey for her cleverness, though he was at loss.
