Cold Case Files
(mike cahill)

Publicidade
For so many years police lacked the technology of DNA and special tests they needed so desperately. Handicapped by this many cases went by the wayside only to be unsolved. The victims were laid to rest or remained missing. Families wondered what really happened to their loved ones. Why did they have to die so young? Who could have hated the person so bady to do such a thing? Unfortunately the police had no answers. Either that or they lacked sufficient evidence to bring a suspect to conviction. Then the crime was placed in a box with a file number.
In time everyone but the family, friends, and a lot of determined cops never gave up. Their goal was simple, Justice.
We now move forward to the new age of crime solving. DNA and forensic labs are doing things unheard of. Along with present crimes police departments are delving into those old files. An amazing result has loomed on the horizon. In about two decades those who thought they got away with murder are finding out they didn't. And the more cases are closed, the more are reopened.
Day by day innocent men and women are freed from prisons nation wide thanks to the efforts of dedicated police detectives, forensic scientists, and families refusing to deny their loved ones justice. This comes at a price though.
Agencies already tapped to the max must rely on extra funds from the states and federal governments. Is it worth the high cost for closing those files? Are the victims worth the expense?
The young woman raped and strangled whose file number may be 2365 was once a living, loving, and caring human being. The couple slain in their home for a few dollars were devout grandparents. The clerk shot working at a convenience store left a wife and two children behind.
Does the fact he was over thirty make it any less bad a crime? These are scant examples of crimes left on metal shelves across this country.
Yes, they had names and do deserve justice. Yes, they left loved ones behind to suffer the endless concern and pain. YES, they are worth the dollars! It is up to our political leaders on both state and federal levels to ensure the funds keep coming.
Maybe we can't bring the lost souls back to life. The least we can do is make certain the guilty don't walk the streets to kill again. The victims and families deserve that much, don't they?
