Kissing The Pink
(M.Sabarinath)

Publicidade
Pål is bewitched by how the colours of the High Arctic shift during the year. Svalbard (Spitzbergen) sits closer to the pole than almost any other land. Here the tonal variations owe more to massive changes in day length than to the sparse vegetation. In winter, it's dark for many weeks, with a glitter of stars, moon and ice and perhaps some colours of aurora. Come mid-February, when this picture was taken, På reckons that the light palette can be at its most fascinating. Here, sunlight has kissed a mountaintop near Longyearben, Svalbard's principal settlement, for a few minutes in the middle of the day, then bowed out. But the mountain still blushes with the palest of pinks, suffusing the blues that give an inkling of the intense cold.
