The Opening Window
(Vic Zarley)
This is a spiritual autobiography from a gentleman who started out in a traditional Christian framework but whose parents veered into a self-sufficiency ?New Age? religion when he was around 12. Over many years, gradually, gently, he was drawn back into the arms of Jesus. The Opening Window title comes from an experience he had when, driving to work in North Miami, one day, he witnessed a cloud formation in the sky that took his breath away. The clouds were formed in such a way that it appeared to be a huge window into the heavens. It moved him in such a way that he went into his workplace and wrote a poem entitled The Opening Window. In it, he made a statement to God of his desire to BE an opening window for others, not just be the recipient of God?s gifts from heaven. This book documents the amazing array of miracles that occurred in his life as he came back to God. He found that as he pressed in to God, God pressed out to him, never failing him. The Opening Window is divided into twelve chapters but, in each chapter there are three types of fonts used because when the author initially began writing this book, he quickly found divine inspiration flowing from his pen as well as the details of his life in which also occurred the many miracles. So every chapter has a mix of normal font, bold font, and italicized font. The italicized font is what a typical biography might have in it: everyday life, the moves, and the environmental description. The bold font is the inspired writing in which the author veers from the narrative to give a word of inspiration and/or exclamation that seems to come from the Lord. The normal font is where the miracles are shared. This book is so much more than a biography, it can be an opening window for people who need their faith bolstered and ?proof? in the existence of an Almighty and yet caring God. Here are two of the many miracles elaborated on in this book: Dreams often revealed an awesome God to the author. One evening he dreamed he was pedaling backward on a bicycle. The next day he was listening to some cuts from National Public Radio in which they were discussing some of the ancient texts that did not make it into the Bible (therefore, they were non-canonized). As they chatted about the Bible, he noticed his faith started to lessen?but he remembered that dream of pedaling backward and quickly ceased listening to that NPR show. The fact that God knew what was going to transpire later on that morning and warned him about it, actually increased his faith. When his wife was dying of cancer and he had completed a massage class, often, he would gently massage her on his massage table which was set up in the computer room of their house in Orangevale, California. One evening as he looked at the computer monitor which was emitting random dots from a screensaver, he saw the sudden appearance of a Valentine type heart for just a split second, then it was gone and the screen resumed its random dot display. Their love had a divine acknowledgement. This autobiography is a wonderful combination of the author?s life with the awesome miracles and inspired prose.
