The Nature Of Time
(George J. Whitrow)

Publicidade
This wonderful book, by G.J. Whitrow a professor of applied mathematics at the University of London, examines one of the biggest problems that have occupied the human mind: time. The theme of the book is developed in a clear and comprehensible way that is most suitable for the non-specialist reader. There is a historical presentation of the concept of time going as back as the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia, the Egyptians, the Greeks, the Romans, the Maya and up until the modern scientific civilization. At the same time the author examines the differences between the cyclical, the linear, the cosmic and biological concepts of time as well as the notion of space-time, without resorting to mathematical formulae. Additionally, various phenomena related to time, are being described ranging from the migration of birds and bees dance to the meson particles of modern physics. In short, it is an eloquent description and, moreover due to the philosophical content of the subject matter, an endless source of discussion. It is recommended without any reservations.
