In his book, Brown presents a plot in the Vatican very realistically. The reader gets to know the ins and outs of the Papal State with all its flaws and virtues. In the book, faith meets science. Characters shown by Brown are divided in two factions. One group, believing in God, tries to prove - through the advance of science - that the credit for everything that surrounds us is due to the Creator. The other one considers science to be evil and deserving to be destroyed at all costs. There is tragedy, innocent people suffer and die in terrible pains - all in the name of faith and great love for God. Vatican is in peril, in danger of annihilation.
Brown shows the reader how little is needed to destroy great achievements of humanity. Love turns into possession - where's the borderline between the two notions? How far can you go in the name of love? The author leaves those questions unanswered.
