Chaak is a brilliant and bold potrayal of womanhood in Indian society . Although this novel revovles around a village in Haryana but it can be any village in India. Sarang naini is the protagonist who realises her womanhood , her identity her very existence in this novel which is a must for every girl growing up to be a woman in contemporary Indian society. The novel starts with the death of Resham who is a widow but wants to live her life in her own terms which is not acceptable to either her inlaws or to the society in general. even the reader might find her different initial and might not understand the stand that she takes because of the of many things that an indian reader cannot unlearn or the inbuilt so called sanskaras or the mentality which defines the morality. this novels can shake you up in many ways.
