The gorgeous daughter of Bollywood superstars: Gemini Ganeshan and Pushpavalli; Rekha is a successful and well known film star of the Bollywood film industry. A film studio was like life for Rekha; her success. At the young age of thirteen, Rekha started her acting career. It is even said that at that age Rekha did not even know language Hindi, nevertheless she was a swift learner and learnt Hindi in three months and
marvelous dancing in one month.
Her first film "Sawan Bhadon" done with Navin Nischol, was released in 1970. Throughout the Seventies, she remained an insignificant entity in Bollywood with nothing but moderate success to her credit. Rekha was an intellectual stylish girl. Amitabh Bachan and Rekha became known as the most splendid pair in all of Bollywood. Among her prominent movies are particularly the ones she did with Amitabh Bachchan ? films like Do Anjaane, Suhaag, Muqqadar Ka Sikander, Mr Natwarlal, Khoon Pasina, Ram Balram and Silsila. And it is known that the two famous actors had a love affair, which obviously did not last, for Amitabh Bachan married Jaya Bachan. Also among her most memorable roles is that of a courtesan-poetess in Muzaffar Ali?s Umrao Jaan in which Rekha received the National Award for her performance, Hrishikesh Mukherjee's Khoobsurat in which she received the Film Fare award and Rakesh Roshan?s Khoon Bhari Maang (in which she was also awarded the Film Fare award. Rekha is a gorgeous successful actress at the age of 51.
