Psalms
(The Bible)
Knowing that sin or iniquity reduces one in the eyes of heaven, the writer of Psalm 32, leaves no one in doubt that forgiveness of sin by God does exactly the opposite. It is a fact that a certain fear of the unknown and a deep-seated anxiety rule the life of anyone who has not really experienced God's forgiveness. It is like living under a sentence of death. God's forgiveness releases one's spirit and restores one's stock spiritually. To remain unforgiven is to remain under a curse. The Psalmist reveals the turmoil he was in and the heavy burden he was under while he went about with his sins unforgiven. Even though he thought he was going to be fine by keeping quiet, everything in him was nevertheless craving for deliverance. He writes about the hand of God being heavy upon him until he had the courage not only to acknowledge but also to confess his sins before God. He believes that everyone who seeks to be immersed in the fulness of God must first seek and receive God's forgiveness. As it is only God who provides a true hiding place from the penalty of sin, only those who have been forgiven have access to this refuge. However, the writer realises that after one has been forgiven, one needs to live right before God and this can only happen if one listens to and follows God who instructs, ' I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shall go : I will...........' He further states that a godly person is not a mere creature of instinct like an animal as he or she is elevated above the level of an animal. He or she should have the spiritual understanding to live right before God.
