Being An Au Pair
(barbara)

Publicidade
At the start I was introduced to my duties and to all that I can or I cannot. ?Never hit my children? she said. ?My husband is a good man? that she said with a voice of warning. ?You can eat what you want but not the things I have prepared for my parties?. I was listening trying to make the most respectful pose I could. I paid attention and made sure she could see it. I have noticed on her finger a golden ring with an enormous beetroot-colour ruby. Never after have I seen it again.
Today I am thinking ? what does the big, screaming red ring may signify, the power, a warning? Who does wear a ring like that apart from the Pope, some far country leaders or?royalty?
The very next day her, the children and me we went to South Kensington Park to have a picnic. The weather was getting beautiful, nearly hot. At some point she sent me and a little boy to get some ice-cream from an ice-cream van. We were lying on a blanket, she asked me about my family and commented on daffodils still present everywhere as the winter that year was quite long and the early spring flowers came out quite late.
On the way back I asked about English people, what they are like and whether they drink lots of beer. ?Maybe the lower class? was her reply to it.
