Psalms
(The Bible)

Publicidade
After what seems to be an eternity of intercession without any tangible results, the writer of Psalm 13 begins to ask questions. This is an indication that there may be times when, like in the life of this writer, heaven falls silent for reasons we may not fully understand. These are times when we have more questions than answers and when we would like more answers. Here, there is no doubt that the writer feels forsaken and bewildered. It also seems that he has become a butt of jokes among his detractors who are now perhaps asking him about his God.

There are those who, when they find themselves in the writer's situation, may begin to lose confidence in the Almighty or even start wondering if He is still up there. Some may be tempted to start making rude and disparaging remarks about the Creator. There are others that would want to try other gods who they think may be able to help them out. The Psalmist refused to do any of this. After posing his questions, he resumes praying which shows that, deep down, he believes in the faithfulness of his God and that his prayer will eventually be answered.

It would appear that what keeps him going is the trust he has in the Almighty. He says, ' But I have trusted in thy mercy.......' The truth is that this kind of trust would not have come from mere intellectual appreciation of God but from a deep inner conviction and the understanding that God eventually rewards those that dilligently seek Him.

Also, it may be that God, who judges the heart, may have been proving his character, not with a view to frustrating him but to mature him even more.
