King Kong

King Kong has been around since 1933, so that is when this remake takes place. The characters are all susceptible to desperation and greed due to the great depression. Ann Darrow is out of work because the theater where she acted has just closed. Carl Denham is film maker who has just lost his financial backing, and Captain Englehorn is desperate to earn money to fix his ship. This desperation leads to the predicted tragedy.

Each character has moments when they follow their better judgment then they fall back into their old ways. Ann refuses to become a prostitute, but then turns to stealing and boards the ship. Captain Englehorn tries to turn the ship back to turn Carl Denham in when he finds out there is a warrant for Denham?s arrest, goes back to Skull Island to get Ann from the hostile natives and Kong, and orders a special rescue an waits for his men. Yet he agrees to help capture and transport Kong back to New York! Denham is a snake most of the way through, but he does try to save his camera-man. Then he reverts back to he evil scheming by capturing Kong! They all know who strong the giant ape and what would happen if Kong gets loose in the city, but they are so desperate form money they selfishly take that risk anyway!

Even Kong is susceptible to regressive behavior! He fought so hard and suffered so much to save Ann from the three largest of the carnivorous dinosaurs that it was hard to see him deliberately kill three women who look like Ann. Earlier on Skull Island, Kong had not attacked the men looking for Ann until they shot at him first!

The special effects are absolutely the best! For those interested in special effects, movie buffs, and the nostalgic this movie is worth the price.
