The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe (movie)
(Tina Hallett)
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe The latest big screen production of Lewis?s classic tale is a smash hit! The visual effects are exhilarating and realistic. The script is fairly true to the original tale, and shows a respect for the classic. The themes of family, friendship, loyalty, sacrifice, and forgiveness are vividly portrayed. The film?s pace is a bit faster than in most retellings. Edmond?s betrayal is swifter and more painful than in the original story as is the White Witch?s betrayal of him. Aslan?s compassion, strength, and self-sacrificing nature are the same; however, his strength and fierceness are emphasized in the last battle scene. When more action was needed; care was taken as to the method. The scene when the four siblings cross the river was turned into an escape scene on not another battle scene by Peter, the eldest, choosing to escape on a patch ice instead of fighting the wolves. The older sibling?s disbelief at finding a hidden world behind a wardrobe will match most adult?s skepticism. The visit by Santa with unusual gifts was not meant to place the later comparison of Aslan with Christ in the category with fantasy, but some might feel it did. Most women will wish that Susan had been dressed for battle, instead of wearing a green gown, when she saves her brother with a fantastic shot of her bow; she should have had more of a role. Parents may be hesitant to take very young children because of the scene when a bomb hits the children house and when Aslan allows the White Witch to sacrifice him; the scene shows clearly the cruelty of our human past. As you can see, there is some violence but it reserved for the three pivotal scenes in the movie. Christians have always loved this story because the Lion?s similarities to Christ; some have called Aslan the Lion-God of Narnia, but in film he is referred to as the rightful king. For fantasy fanatics, this film is a must. This Film is worth the money; see it now for the big screen experience. This is the first in a series of films; I look forward to the next film in the Chronicles of Narnia series.
