(William Shakespeare)

Publicidade
The Roman people had a remarkable history.Infact, theirs was a story of great conqests. In ancient times,Julius Caesar was one of their greatest army generals.Shakespeare gave us a play which reflected upon his life and we are able to see the beauty and ugliness of the ancient empire.Julius Caesar returned from his greatest conquest,of course his heroism had now heightened and he was enjoying lots of honor and power.Yet,one question remained, would he be made king?Apparently,no one was more qualified and this last victory he gave to Rome actually brought him to the brink of royalty. But before he could plunge into it,he was assasinated! At the roots of the assasination were Caesar'friends.Unknown to Caesar, envy and hate had built up around him, while his fame was flourishing- causing his demise. What his enemies could not do in years, his friends' daggers did in just one attempt. But how would they handle the people to prevent mutiny? They had done their groundwork well. They told the people that Caesar was growing too powerful and uncontrollable.Such a man was dangerous for Rome, therefore he had to be checked by assasination.Initially, their explanation worked. But Mark Anthony had determined to avenge Caesar's death.Cleverly,he secured permission to speak at Caesar's funeral. As he unleashed his oratorical prowess on the people, things took a dramatic turn- mutiny, arson, loss of lives, then war were the rest of the story.Caesar's ghost loomed and seemed to disconcert the camps of the cospirators. They lost to Anthony at the end. When Brutus(chief among the plotters)was found dead,Anthony extolled his nobility, for only him among all others killed Caesar out of sincerity.Betrayal and conspiracy swallowed his greatness.
