Pride And Prejudice
(Jane Austen)

Publicidade
PRIDE AND PREJUDICE is a timeless novel, which has inspired countless readers to plunge into the world of classics. AUSTEN has most skillfully characterized in and every one of the personalities in the story.
The arrival of the wealthy Mr. Darcy in the neighborhood causes great excitement within the Bennet family. Mrs. Bennet is convinced that one of her five daughters was sure to capture the young aristocrat's heart. That fate befalls the spirited Elizabeth, the second of the five young girls.
This story is about Elizabeth's pride, which was mortally wounded when Mr. Darcy slighted her at a ball, and about her prejudices about him, which were based on her first impressions of him and malicious gossip of friends. She rejects Mr. Darcy's advances because of all this. However, as she busies herself with the romances and scandals of her sisters, she once again finds herself in his company. Gradually her opinions of this proud young man begin to change...
This story is also about Mr. Darcy's pride in being the richest man in the neighborhood. He also felt himself above the slightly bohemian country people; and about his prejudices, which were based on his first impressions.
But this story is not only about these two. It is also about the eldest Miss Bennet: Jane. She is a beautiful young woman with a personality to match. No one who has seen her can help falling in love with her. Mr. Bingley, Mr. Darcy's dear friend, too falls for her.
Lydia, the youngest Miss Bennet is a very big part in the story as well. She is spoilt by her mother and is a vain and volatile young girl who never stops to consider the consequences of her actions. She runs away with the worthless though handsome young Wikham, and puts the respectability of her family in jeopardy.
Though this story was written such a long time ago, the issues that AUSTEN has dealt with still stand today. She, like a silent and invisible observer reports the whole story with a witty and slightly sarcastic style and has us chuckling from the beginning till the end.
PRIDE AND PREJUDICE is a wonderful novel that every body should read at last once in their lives.
