Shadow Of The Sphinx
(Christian Jacq)
Shadow of the Sphinx is the third volume of the Judge of Egypt trilogy. It is based on the history of Ancient Egypt, with plenty of imaginative fiction thrown in.Tjaty Pazair is second only to Pharaoh Ramses the Great. He has been assigned the task of finding the Testament of the Gods, the one possession that Ramses needs to prove his right to rule at his regeneration ceremony at the beginning of the new year. The Testament has been stolen from its rightful place in the Great Pyramid at Giza. Five conspirators have been uncovered, four are dead, the fifth, Bel-Tran, is the Director of the Double White House, which controls the countries trade and finances. Pazair has to thwart Bel-Tran?s attempts to destroy Egypt?s infrastructure. He is helped by his wife, Neferet, the head of the Memphis Guards, Kem, Killer, Kem?s baboon, and the former Tjaty, Bagey. He desperately needs Suti, his blood brother, to assist him in this impossible task, but he has gone missing after escaping from a Nubian prison. There are many attempts on Pazair?s life and he has so few people to turn to. He doesn?t know whom to trust and he doesn?t know if there are any other people involved in the scheme. There is a good twist at the end of the book and it is well worth reading if you love adventure or stories based in fact.
