Banking Industry is second to none in providing an attractive job opportunity. Be it Job satisfaction, Salary and perks and time for family life, it provides a person with so many allurements that makes this job tempting. Moreover Banking Industry has become an essential part of everybody's life. We are becoming increasingly dependent on Banking System. The role of Banking in growth of economy as well as that of an individual can't be denied. For this the continuos intake of specialized personnel becomes imperative. Recruitment in Banks takes place at two levels: - i) One as Probationary Officers. ii) Second at Clerical Level. Banks conduct examination for the selection of Probationary Officers in their respective banks. The Central Recruitment Board, State Bank Group holds State Bank Of India Probationary Officers? Exam every year. No candidate is permitted to compete more than three times at the examination. This restriction is not applied in the case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC communities. For appearing in Bank PO exam : · The candidate must be a graduate from a recognized University or must possess an equivalent qualification recognized as such by the Government of India. · The age limit is between 21 and 30 years as on the specified date notified in the press advertisements with exceptions in specific cases. The upper age limit is relaxed for SC/ST and OBC candidates, ex-Servicemen / Commissioned Officers and Officers of Regional Rural Banks, subject to certain conditions. Neatly typed or legibly handwritten applications should be submitted in the specified format to the Bank as is mentioned in the recruitment advertisement. The examination is conducted in two stages, Written Test and interview. The details are as follows: (i) The Written Test consists of: (a) Objective Test (b) Descriptive Test (a) The Objective Test consists of the following sections: · Test of General Awareness: To find out the candidate's awareness of people and events, past and present from different walks of life. · Test of English Language: To assess proficiency in the English Language through questions on grammar, vocabulary, sentence completion, synonyms, antonyms, comprehension passages etc. · Test of Quantitative Aptitude: To measure how fast and accurate a candidate can handle computation, reasoning and interpretation of tables and graphs etc. · Test of Reasoning: To gauge the thinking and reasoning aptitudes of the candidates through questions of various kinds. Problems may be of three types, namely Series, Analogies and Classification. There is Negative Marking for every wrong answer. The tests of General Awareness, Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude papers will be in Hindi and English. The number of questions in each section and the suggested approximate time for solving each section are given below: (a) OBJECTIVE TEST NO. OF QUESTIONS SUGGESTED APPROXIMATE TIME Test of General Awareness 50 25 minutes Test of English Language 50 30 minutes Test of Quantitative Aptitude 50 30 minutes Test of Reasoning 75 50 minutes Total No. of Questions 225 135 minutes (b) The above-mentioned tests may not appear in the same order in the test booklet and the number of questions and the duration may also vary. (c) The Descriptive Test: This 45-minute paper is set either in English or Hindi. It serves to measure the candidate's higher order cognitive abilities such as comprehension and analysis of situations, generation of unique ideas or situations as well as language ability. Three out of four questions have to be answered on a given situation with answers to be restricted to the space provided in the question-cum-answer sheet. (ii) The Interview follows for candidates successful in the Written Test. Merit list for final selection is based on the aggregate marks obtained by the candidates in the written test and interview.
